PSHE is a subject through which our children develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy, safe and prepared for life and work.

Our PSHE curriculum aims to equip children with essential skills for life. It aims to develop the whole child through  lessons that develop the knowledge, skills and attributes children need to protect and enhance their wellbeing. Through these lessons, children will learn how to stay safe and healthy, build and maintain successful relationships and become active citizens, responsibly participating in society around them.

As we prepare children for life in society, now and in the future we focus in enabling them to see each and everybody’s value in society, from appreciation of others in units such as Diverse Britain, to promoting strong and positive views of self in Think Positive and Be Yourself.  Through PSHE and Citizenship units we aim to cover a wide range of the social and emotional aspects of learning, enabling children to develop their identity and self-esteem as active, confident citizens. The themes and topics support social, moral, spiritual and cultural development and provide children with protective teaching on essential safeguarding issues, developing the knowledge of when and how children can ask for help.

In Early Years (the Reception year), the curriculum is organised along broad themes. You can see what history looks like in Reception  here.

On our PSHE journey through school, we use itineraries to help us know where we're going. Each unit of work has one which includes focused objectives for different groups of children, cross-curricular links and our ultimate destination. We help the children by using a Key these include - questions, vocabulary, ideas - to help them know more and remember more. Click on each class to see the itinerary and keys.

Relationship Education is also taught sensitively through the CWP scheme with age-appropriate themes.

Our children develop confidence, resilience, independence and strength of character through participation in PSHE so that they are able to discover more about themselves and their contribution to a world within and beyond Leintwardine.
